No water? Check for an outage before you call
When the water stops at a Redland Bay home, the cause is often in the street, not the house. Redland City Council’s City Water publishes every water and sewerage service interruption on its Water Service Interruptions page, with a map and a list you can filter to Redland Bay.
Planned interruptions are for maintenance booked in advance, and council aims to give at least two business days’ notice. Unplanned ones, like a burst water main, go up on the page as soon as council knows about them. You can also sign up for daily email alerts for your area.
If your water is off and nothing is listed, council asks you to report it any time on 07 3829 8999. If the neighbours have water and you don’t, the problem is more likely on your property, and that’s when you need an emergency plumber in Redland Bay.
If someone in the house relies on a continuous water supply for life support or another medical need, register with council as a special needs property. You’ll get four business days’ notice of planned interruptions instead of two.

When it’s your side of the meter
Council looks after the water main and the meter. Everything on the property side of the meter is the owner’s, and that’s where we come in. A low or no water problem at one house usually comes down to a few things: a stop valve that’s been knocked closed, a leak or burst pipe drawing the pressure away, or a failed pressure limiting or isolation valve.
Council’s customer standard is a minimum of 22 metres head of static pressure and 30 litres a minute at the meter under normal conditions. If the supply reaching your meter is fine but the taps are weak, the fault is inside your plumbing, and we can find it.
Not every pressure change is a fault. City Water flushes parts of the network on a planned cycle to clear sediment, and that can briefly change pressure or discolour the water. If it’s discoloured, council’s advice is to run a cold tap for a few minutes until it clears.
Jim Monger Plumbing and Gas works under QBCC licence 15504687 and gas licence L90908, from our base in nearby Victoria Point.
Frequently asked questions
Can’t see your question? Call us and we’ll talk it through.
Call 0418 871 269The water’s off at my Redland Bay house. Do I need an emergency plumber?
Check City Water’s Water Service Interruptions page first, or call 07 3829 8999. If there’s no outage and your neighbours have water, call us on 0418 871 269 and we’ll find the fault on your side of the meter.
How long do unplanned water outages in the Redlands usually last?
Council’s target is to restore 95% of unplanned interruptions within five hours, and to respond to at least 90% of loss-of-water events within 60 minutes on the mainland. Times on the interruptions page are estimates.
Our water pressure dropped suddenly. Is that a leak?
It might be. If there’s no outage or flushing work listed, turn off every tap and look at the meter. If it’s still turning, water is going somewhere, and a hidden leak is likely. Call us to track it down.
We’re on tank water and the taps have stopped. Is that council’s problem?
No. On a rainwater tank, the supply depends on your own pump and pressure system, so a failed pump means no water at all. We treat tank and pump failures as urgent.
Can you come out after hours?
Yes. Plumbing and gas emergencies are taken 24/7, including weekends and public holidays. Routine work is booked through the office, 7am to 5pm on weekdays.
