Blocked Drain Springwood
Commercial and household blocked drains cleared in Springwood, including grease-choked kitchen lines in cafés, restaurants and takeaways. CCTV inspections to find the problem section.

Food businesses and grease
A commercial kitchen sends far more fat, oil and food waste down its drains than a house does. Logan City Council treats this as trade waste: wastewater from a business that’s different in nature or strength from household sewage. It can strain the sewer network and cause blockages and damage.
Food premises, shopping centres, mechanical workshops, commercial laundries and service stations often need a trade waste approval from council. Most food businesses must be connected to a grease arrestor, a tank that holds the wastewater long enough for fats and solids to separate before the rest goes to the sewer.
How much risk a kitchen carries depends on what it does. Logan’s requirements, based on a national guideline, rate frying, deep frying, BBQ, roasting meat and high-fat sauces as higher risk than sandwiches, salads or pre-packaged food.

When the kitchen drains still block
A grease arrestor only works if it’s serviced. Logan requires owners to use licensed liquid waste transporters registered with the state’s electronic waste tracking system to pump them out. If an arrestor isn’t coping, council can require more frequent servicing, or an upgrade or replacement.
The drains between the kitchen and the arrestor can still block. Grease sets in the lines from sinks, dishwashers and floor wastes before it ever reaches the tank. Domestic clearing methods often won’t shift it. We clear these lines with a high-pressure jet rodder, then inspect them with a CCTV camera to find dips or damaged sections where grease keeps collecting.
Between visits, keep food scraps out of the drains with sink strainers and by scraping plates into the bin. Logan’s cleaner production fact sheet for food businesses also suggests running cold water after a grease arrestor pump-out to reduce odours.
We work in Springwood homes and businesses under QBCC licence 15504687, and take blocked drain emergencies 24/7, so a blocked kitchen line doesn’t have to wait until Monday.
Frequently asked questions
Can’t see your question? Call us and we’ll talk it through.
Call 0418 871 269Does my Springwood café need a trade waste approval?
Probably. Logan City Council says food premises often need one, and most food businesses need a grease arrestor. Call council’s Trade Waste team on 07 3412 3412 to check.
Who pumps out a grease arrestor?
A licensed liquid waste transporter registered with the electronic waste tracking system. Council keeps a list of registered providers.
The arrestor was just pumped but the kitchen drain is still blocked. Why?
The blockage may be in the line between the sink or floor waste and the arrestor, where grease sets before reaching the tank. That line needs jet rodding.
Can you clear commercial drains after hours?
Yes. Blocked drain emergencies are taken 24/7, so we can come outside trading hours when the kitchen is closed.
Can a camera show why our kitchen drains keep blocking?
Yes. A CCTV inspection after clearing shows dips, damage or build-up in the line, so you can fix the cause instead of paying for repeat callouts.
