Blocked Drain Cornubia
Blocked stormwater drains, downpipes and yard drainage cleared in Cornubia, as well as sewer and household drains. Camera inspections to find where the water is getting stuck.

Stormwater on your block is yours to manage
Gutters spilling over in heavy rain, a downpipe backing up at the bottom, or water pooling against the house usually means the stormwater line underground is blocked. Leaves, silt and roots are the usual suspects.
In Logan, that line is the owner’s responsibility. Logan City Council says property owners are responsible for managing stormwater drainage and surface water on their properties, and roof water and stormwater must comply with plumbing and drainage regulations and drain to the kerb and channel, an inter-allotment roof water system, or a council drainage easement or reserve.
Council also expects you to accept natural overland flow from neighbouring land. Surface water flows to the lowest point, and the downhill owner is responsible for protecting the buildings on their own block, if needed by installing private drainage.

Finding and clearing the blockage
Logan keeps as-constructed plans for sewer, water and stormwater connections on many properties, and you can view them online for free. They don’t record private roof water drainage for houses, though, because in Queensland that falls to the private building certifier. So for downpipe and roof water lines, a camera is often the only way to see where they run.
We clear blocked stormwater lines with a high-pressure jet rodder, then put a CCTV camera through to find whatever stopped them: a build-up of silt, roots at a joint, or a crushed or broken section. If there are no plans, a licensed plumber can locate the drainage lines and draw them up.
Stormwater and sewer are separate systems. Logan says only rainwater should go into stormwater, and downpipes and tank overflows must not be connected to your sewer overflow relief gully. If we find a cross-connection either way, we’ll tell you.
We also install drainage solutions and seepage trenches where a yard holds water. We work under QBCC licence 15504687.
Frequently asked questions
Can’t see your question? Call us and we’ll talk it through.
Call 0418 871 269Who is responsible for a blocked stormwater drain on my Cornubia property?
The property owner. Logan City Council says owners are responsible for stormwater drainage and surface water on their properties. Council looks after its own drains in the street and in council easements.
Where should my downpipes drain to?
In Logan, roof water and stormwater must drain to the kerb and channel, an inter-allotment roof water system, or a council-controlled drainage easement or reserve, and comply with plumbing regulations.
My neighbour’s runoff floods my yard. Is that their problem?
Not if it’s natural overland flow. Council says owners must accept natural flow from adjoining land, and the downhill owner protects their own buildings, for example with private drainage. It’s different if water is being concentrated or diverted onto your land.
How do I find where my stormwater pipes run?
Check Logan’s free online as-constructed plans first. Private roof water drainage isn’t recorded for houses, so we can trace the lines with a camera and locate them.
Can I connect my downpipe to the sewer to stop the yard flooding?
No. Stormwater and sewer are separate, and Logan says roof water and tank overflows must not be directed into the overflow relief gully.
