Blocked Drain Cleveland
Blocked kitchen sinks and grease-choked drains cleared in Cleveland. We jet the line clean and check it with a camera, so it doesn’t block again next month.

Why the kitchen sink keeps blocking
Hot fat and oil pour down the sink easily, then cool and set inside the pipe. Each wash adds another layer, and food scraps, coffee grounds and rice stick to it. Unitywater calls the result a fatberg: a build-up that grows until it strangles the pipe and causes backups and floods.
The kitchen is usually the first drain to go. You’ll notice the sink draining slowly, a gurgle when the dishwasher empties, or a smell from the plughole before it stops altogether.
Hot water or a bottle of drain cleaner might shift a small blockage for a while, but they don’t clean the grease off the pipe walls, and that coating is where the next blockage starts. Clearing it properly means scouring the pipe, not just opening a hole through the middle.

Keep it out of the sink, and what we do when it’s too late
Unitywater’s list of things that shouldn’t go down the sink includes fats, oils and grease, food scraps such as eggshells, bones and cooked rice, dairy products, coffee grounds, and plastics like food wrappers and fruit stickers. Redland City Council also lists oils, fats and food scraps as unsuitable for its wastewater system.
The habits that prevent it are simple: scrape plates into the bin or compost, wipe greasy pans with paper towel before washing them, pour cooled cooking oil into a jar and bin it, and use a sink strainer to catch scraps.
When it’s already blocked, we clear the line with a high-pressure jet rodder, which washes the grease off the pipe walls rather than just opening a small channel. A CCTV camera then shows whether the pipe is clean and sound, or if there’s a dip or damaged section where fat keeps settling.
We work under QBCC licence 15504687 and take blocked drain emergencies 24/7, weekends included.
Frequently asked questions
Can’t see your question? Call us and we’ll talk it through.
Call 0418 871 269Why does my kitchen sink keep blocking in Cleveland?
Usually a build-up of fat, oil and food scraps inside the pipe. Clearing the opening without scouring the pipe leaves most of it behind, so it blocks again. Jet rodding cleans the pipe walls.
Is it OK to pour cooking oil down the sink with hot water?
No. It cools and sets further down the pipe. Pour cooled oil into a jar, seal it and put it in the bin, as Unitywater recommends.
Can coffee grounds go down the sink?
Unitywater says no. Coffee grounds, eggshells, bones, cooked rice and dairy all belong in the bin or compost.
Do drain cleaning chemicals work on grease blockages?
They might shift a small one for a while, but they don’t clean the pipe, and they’re dangerous to handle. A jet rodder clears grease properly.
Can you tell if my sink pipe is damaged?
Yes. After clearing, a CCTV camera inspection shows the inside of the pipe, including any dips, cracks or build-up left behind.
