Outdoor Kitchen Gas in Wellington Point
Alfresco and outdoor kitchen gas for Wellington Point homes: built-in barbecues, bayonet points and outdoor cooktops, connected and signed off properly.

A built-in BBQ is gas work
A portable barbecue running off its own gas bottle is one thing. A built-in barbecue or outdoor cooktop connected to the house’s natural gas or a fixed LPG supply is another. Running the pipework, fitting a bayonet point and hooking up the appliance all count as gas work under Queensland law, which reserves that work for licensed gasfitters.
Once the job is finished, you should receive the compliance certificate for the gas system, lodged through the state’s online portal, while the network operator gets its own copy. Physical compliance plates were dropped for most installations in July 2025.
Follow the maker’s installation and operating instructions for any outdoor gas appliance. When you’re shopping, check it carries Australia’s gas device approval mark, and favour models with flame failure protection, which shuts the supply off if a gust puts the burner out.

Using outdoor gas safely
Outdoor areas aren’t always as open as they look. A patio heater misused, or running badly, gives off carbon monoxide, which is why the state’s gas safety rules keep them out of rooms and partly enclosed spaces. A deck with the blinds rolled down can count as one.
Keep cylinders secured, away from heat and ignition sources, with valves sealed when not in use. Portable cylinders need a valid 10-year test stamp to be refilled. And remember LPG is heavier than air, so a leak can collect in low spots.
A barbecue burner that takes more than a few clicks to catch, or burns with a ragged, spluttering flame, may have a fault or be badly set up. Get it looked at by a gasfitter rather than persisting.
We connect and certify outdoor kitchens, barbecues, cooktops and heaters on natural gas and bottled supply, under our gas licence (L90908), with plumbing covered by QBCC licence 15504687.
Frequently asked questions
Can’t see your question? Call us and we’ll talk it through.
Call 0418 871 269Do I need a gasfitter for a built-in BBQ in Wellington Point?
Yes. Hooking a barbecue up to a fixed supply, along with any pipework or bayonet points, is gas work, so it has to be done by someone holding a gas work licence.
What paperwork comes with outdoor kitchen gas work?
A compliance certificate for the gas system, which the gasfitter issues at the end of the job.
Is a patio heater OK under a roofed, blind-in alfresco?
Not if the space is partly closed in. Carbon monoxide builds up, so the regulator limits portable outdoor heaters to genuinely open air.
What should I look for in an outdoor gas appliance?
The Australian gas device approval mark, plus flame failure protection that stops the gas if the flame goes out.
Can you swap my portable BBQ for a built-in one on mains gas?
Yes. We run the gas line, fit the connection and certify the installation.
