Hot Water Systems Cornubia
Gas hot water systems in Cornubia, installed and repaired by a licensed gasfitter. Continuous flow or storage, piped natural gas or LPG bottles, and conversions between gas and electric.

Natural gas or LPG bottles?
Not every Cornubia street has piped natural gas. Business Queensland notes that not all areas are on a gas distribution network, and you can check whether your property can be connected by calling APA’s customer connections line on 1300 001 001. Where there’s no main, gas hot water runs on LPG bottles instead.
Both work the same way and have similar efficiency. The difference is running cost and supply. The Your Home guide says LPG systems are around two to three times more expensive to run than piped gas, and generally need two or more 45 kg bottles so you’re not swapping them constantly.
If you’re already on bottles and the running cost has crept up, it may be worth comparing a heat pump or another electric option. Your Home is blunt that, to keep running costs and emissions down, gas hot water is generally not the cheapest way to go. We install gas, electric and heat pump systems and can convert between them, so you get a straight answer either way.

Continuous flow or a storage tank
A continuous flow (instantaneous) gas unit heats water only as you use it, so it never runs out, and there’s no tank losing heat overnight. A gas storage unit keeps a tank hot. It can be smaller than an electric tank because gas reheats quickly, but Your Home notes the tanks are often less insulated, so they lose more heat.
Capacity matters with continuous flow. A standard unit can supply one or two outlets at once. If two showers and the dishwasher regularly run together, you need a high-performance unit that can handle three or more.
Continuous flow units need a high gas flow, especially on LPG, and that can mean a larger gas supply pipe or meter. If a cooktop is already connected, its pipe may be too small. Decide on the hot water unit before any gas pipe goes in, so it’s only done once.
Some units also misbehave at very low flow, cutting out with a water-saving showerhead or pre-warmed water. We check flow rates and pipe sizes before we recommend a model. All gas work is carried out under gas licence L90908, and plumbing under QBCC licence 15504687.
Frequently asked questions
Can’t see your question? Call us and we’ll talk it through.
Call 0418 871 269Is continuous flow gas hot water better than a gas storage tank?
It never runs out and has no standing heat loss, so it’s usually more efficient. A tank can suit homes where several outlets run at once, unless you choose a high-performance continuous flow unit.
Why is my LPG hot water so expensive to run?
LPG generally costs two to three times as much to run as piped natural gas. If the price has crept up, it’s worth comparing a heat pump, which uses much less energy.
Do I need a bigger gas pipe for a continuous flow unit?
Often, yes. Instantaneous units draw a lot of gas at once, particularly on LPG, and an existing cooktop line may be too small. We check before quoting.
My continuous flow unit keeps cutting out in the shower. Why?
Some units shut down at low flow, especially with water-saving showerheads or warm inlet water. It can also be a fault in the unit, so call us to diagnose it.
Can you switch my hot water from gas to electric or heat pump?
Yes. Converting between electric and gas, in either direction, is part of our hot water work.
