Rental Property Plumbing in Cornubia
Plumbing for Cornubia rental properties: keeping water, drainage, toilets and laundries up to Queensland’s minimum housing standards, for owners, property managers and tenants.

What the minimum housing standards say about plumbing
Every residential rental in Queensland must meet minimum housing standards, both when the tenant moves in and throughout the tenancy. Several of them are about plumbing.
The Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA) lists them. A rental must have adequate plumbing and drainage, and be connected to hot and cold water suitable for drinking. Bathrooms must provide privacy, with flushable toilets connected to a sewer, septic tank or other waste disposal system. If laundry facilities are provided, they need the fixtures for a working laundry, such as taps and adequate plumbing.
The property must also be free from damp and mould, weatherproof, and in good repair, with fixtures and fittings that aren’t likely to cause injury in normal use. A leaking pipe in a wall or a failed shower seal can put a property on the wrong side of more than one standard.

When something stops working mid-tenancy
It’s the owner’s or property manager’s responsibility to make sure the property meets the standards at the start of the tenancy. If something fails during the tenancy and the property no longer complies, the tenant must tell the property manager, owner or nominated emergency repair contact.
The RTA classifies repairs needed to bring a property back up to the minimum housing standards as emergency repairs, so the emergency repair process applies. In a unit or townhouse, the property must meet the standards and the body corporate by-laws, and some repairs may be the body corporate’s responsibility.
Note that a laundry doesn’t have to include a washing machine, as tenants may bring their own, but the taps and plumbing for one must work.
We repair taps, toilets, leaks, drains, hot water and gas in Cornubia rentals, with emergency calls taken 24/7, under QBCC licence 15504687 and gas licence L90908. Quotes are free.
Frequently asked questions
Can’t see your question? Call us and we’ll talk it through.
Call 0418 871 269What plumbing does a Queensland rental need to have?
Adequate plumbing and drainage, hot and cold drinkable water, private bathrooms with flushable toilets connected to a sewer or septic system, and working laundry plumbing if a laundry is provided.
Is a broken toilet in a Cornubia rental an emergency repair?
Yes. A blocked or broken toilet is on the RTA’s emergency repair list, and repairs needed to meet the minimum housing standards are treated as emergency repairs.
Does a rental have to include a washing machine?
No. The laundry needs the tap fixtures and plumbing for one, but the tenant may provide the machine.
Who has to fix a plumbing problem in a rental unit?
Usually the owner, but in a body corporate some repairs may fall to the body corporate. The tenant’s job is to report it promptly.
Can a leak make a rental non-compliant?
It can. Rentals must be free from damp and mould and in good repair, and a persistent leak can affect both.
