General Plumbing Hemmant
Licensed plumbing and gas for Hemmant homes, workshops and industrial sites, including annual backflow prevention testing and the paperwork Brisbane City Council requires.

Backflow devices on industrial sites
North of the railway line, Hemmant is mostly industrial, shaped by its access to the Port of Brisbane. Industrial and commercial sites are where backflow prevention matters most.
A backflow prevention device stops water flowing backwards from a site into the city’s drinking water supply. Brisbane City Council lists where they’re usually fitted: commercial or industrial activity or machinery connected to the mains, fire hose reels and hydrants, irrigation systems, outlets near pollutants, grease traps or chemicals, and underground rainwater tanks with a mains backup.
Some devices are testable, and those carry ongoing obligations. Council keeps a register of every testable device in Brisbane and sends owners an annual registration fee notice and a testing reminder early each year.

What the owner and the tester must do
Owners must register each testable device with council, pay the annual fee, and have it inspected or tested every year by an endorsed backflow tester. Council’s reminders ask for testing by 31 December. Owners can be fined up to 20 penalty units for every device that hasn’t been tested or registered.
The tester submits the results to council on a Form 9 within 10 business days. A new device must be installed by a licensed plumber, who lodges a Form 4 with the QBCC and a Form 9 with council. A device should only be removed or replaced if the hazard no longer exists.
We carry out annual backflow prevention testing and servicing, along with thermostatic mixing valve testing, and can arrange reminders so deadlines aren’t missed. Commercial drain clearing and gas work are covered by the same team.
Plumbing work is carried out under QBCC licence 15504687, and gas under L90908. Emergency calls are taken 24/7.
